Three editions, three men's champions, and no pair has won this title twice. That is the whole record, it is too thin to lean on, and Friday is worth trying to place anyway. Siemer came to Champigny holding the title he won in Guildford in 2024 with Eisenträger, who is a German national coach now and was not in this draw. He left with silver.

Germany reached the final from the brink of elimination. Facing a match point against Italy in the second game, Seiffarth and Siemer saw an Italian ball land about ten centimetres out, and then an Italian unforced error. Germany took the second game and then the third. Nelson and Rose came through the other half against Bichler and Nerad, 25-24, 11-21, 21-12, the first of those games settled at the hard cap of 25.

Germany took the opening game of the final 21-19, and the ball that decided it was Siemer's second serve: 19-19, first serve already gone, ace, 20-19.

Then the serving went the other way and stayed there.

Nelson won two points in a row on his own delivery, an ace on Seiffarth for 16-15 and then one that Siemer never got a hand on for 17-15. Nelson and Rose took both, 21-18 and 21-17, and Rose ended the match with an ace of his own, a cut serve to the right side.

They were the pair this blog's model put first before the tournament, at 63.1 percent for gold.

Bazzani and Borsotti took the bronze from Bichler and Nerad, 21-15, 21-17, and thus secured another medal for Italy. Germany had held the other two semi-final places and leaves the division with a silver medal and a fourth. Italy had never won a medal at a world championship before Thursday of this week, and it now has two, the mixed title and this one.

The record, after three editions

Three editions, three champions, and no name on that list twice. Siemer's attempt to change it ended in the last two games of Friday afternoon.

Whether that pattern says something about the sport or is simply three results is a question for the fourth championship.
