Matches are decided by a single game to 21 points, with no room for comebacks. This structure heavily favors underdog teams, as anything can happen in a short game where serves play a crucial role.<h3>Controversy</h3>A point of contention this year is Austria receiving only three spots while France has four, despite Austria’s superior head-to-head record against France in 2022 and 2023. Austria did not appeal the seeding decision, resulting in their reduced representation.<h3>Can Someone Break into the Top 4 Other Than Americans?</h3>The Canadians are the most likely candidates to challenge the American dominance. Teams like Bosak/Cote and Dean/Mathieu are strong contenders. Notably, the Canadian duo Dean/Gagnon recently defeated the American team Klapwijk/Cole at the STS Major in Salt Lake City. <a data-mce-href="https://www.instagram.com/vinny_roundnet/" href="https://www.instagram.com/vinny_roundnet/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">V. Mathieu</a>, a Canadian star, has made his intentions clear:<blockquote> “ We didn’t talk about individual as Team Canada; I think it’s to have fun and get ready for squads. There is no team goal but mine is 100% to win it all.” (V. Mathieu)</blockquote>The Americans are fielding a “Dream Team,” missing only the injured M. Model from their original lineup. Following this, teams are re-seeded into the second round based on their performance, with the top 32 teams advancing to the Gold Tier, 24 to the Silver Tier, and 23 to the Bronze Tier.A slow start in the first round—such as winning “only” 21:15—could result in top teams facing each other in the second round. Nationalities are no longer a factor in the second round, meaning we could see multiple American or German teams in the same pool. Only the top 8 teams after the second round will advance to the Gold 1 bracket, making every game critical.<h3>Can Europeans Stir Up Some Feathers?</h3>Despite shortcomings in the European Championship final in Vienna, Eisenträger/Siemer 🇩🇪 remain Europe’s best hope for a top 8 finish. With only one loss this season, they are eager to prove themselves on the world stage. Last year, they exited the STS Pro Championship in the Round of 16, losing to “Bot House,” a team not considered among America’s top 5.Additionally, the absence of RCG Powerline 🇦🇹 (Bachler/Dziruni) and Pour Combien 🇫🇷 (Ameziane/Florinda) from the individual competition opens up opportunities for other European powerhouses like Clark/Florinda 🇫🇷, Bazzani/Borsotti 🇮🇹, and the German 🇩🇪 teams “Rainbow Warriors” (Claus/Lauterbach), “Willy Wonka” (Grönebaum/Prüfer), and Krehle/Christiani. All these teams have reached the top 4 in major European tournaments and will be strong contenders for the top 8.<h3>A Dream Matchup</h3>A personal wish would be to see a matchup between “Kingdom Come” (Cole/Klapwijk 🇺🇸) and “Willy Wonka” (Grönebaum/Prüfer 🇩🇪). Both teams feature similar player types: left-handed servers and defensive stalwarts. Grant “The Klapper” Klapwijk, standing over two meters tall with a giant wingspan, is arguably the most dominant server in the world, captivating roundnet fans with his prowess.On the other hand, Prüfer, often nicknamed the European Klap or “Klapper from Lidl,” is a force to be reckoned with. Despite being slightly shorter, he has adopted a very similar serving style. Here are some bold predictions:Europeans will dominate places 10-32. At least one team from Taiwan, Australia, or Chile will break into the top 32.Overall, the matches promise to be nail-biting, close, and thrilling. Men’s Worlds' Preview - Who Can Defeat the 🇺🇸 All-Stars?

Is our best chance of success in forming a formidable mixed team, or should we maximize national representation across all categories?Let’s delve into the choices made by the teams.<h3>Mixed - Who Will Secure the Fourth Place?</h3>Is this a provocative headline, Jakub? Not at all. It’s an informed, analytical projection. Her partner, Felix, brings half a decade of experience and a serving technique that applies relentless pressure on opponents.Conversely, the American teams will aim to avoid each other in the semifinals, setting the stage for a thrilling final. Pierson/Rose (known as “Chalked” in the US) have dominated this STS season, winning four out of five mixed events and finishing second in the other. Rose, with additional two mixed titles under his belt, has cemented his status as North America’s mixed division king.Rose’s exceptional serving, which also propelled him to the top of the men’s division this season (currently ranked 1st with P. Clifford in team “Numb”), combined with Pierson’s solid fundamentals, positions them as favorites for the world title. However, Hui/Gross and Kunzelmann/Felix are formidable contenders who will not concede easily.<h3>Other Contenders</h3>With Leybourne (🇦🇹) opting to compete in the women’s division with her partner Kadlec (Tiramisu) - detailed in the women’s preview - the powerhouse mixed team of Uniley (Leybourne/Dziruni 🇦🇹) will not defend their 3rd place finish from ’22.This opens the field significantly, or does it?Haas/Kanis (🇩🇪) are a seasoned mixed team with multiple European tournament victories. They were quarterfinalists at the last world championship, falling to eventual winners Hui/Gross (🇺🇸), and are eager for redemption. Kanis, who has played most of the mixed season with Paysan (🇫🇷) while managing injuries, is known for his deceptive, spin-heavy serves. The question remains whether this will suffice for a deep tournament run.Haas, recognized as one of Europe’s most consistent women’s players, could be the key to their success. Naturally, the second German team, Riedelsheimer/Schirop, could also create some upsets, yet they will play without any pressure.&nbsp;Additionally, Duport/Lecrosnier (🇫🇷) are a well-established team, consistently finishing in the top 8 at major tournaments. Lecrosnier, a challenging left-handed server, has been honing his skills, earning a spot among France’s elite men’s players. Duport, often overshadowed by Alt/Paysan (formerly Puces &amp; Dives), has been quietly making strides in Europe. Let’s see if the “Bad Salmons” (their team name) will have enough energy after swimming through the English Channel😉.Moreover, the Canadian team Vallée/Prince is a significant contender for a top 4 finish. Competing as “Princess,” they secured an STS Challenger victory in Boston this year and placed 3rd at the Richmond major. Prince’s 4th overall ranking as a mixed-individual player in North America underscores their potential.<h3>Can Someone Outside of North America and Europe Break into the Top 8?</h3>The Australian Fatt and the Finnish/British player Beeks, who resides in the US, will carry the Union Jack’s hopes. This summer, Fatt/Beeks secured a 3rd place finish out of 7 pro teams at ETS Helsinki, providing the UK with a glimmer of hope.Beeks, a prominent roundnet influencer, is still striving for recognition from his peers as a player, having never been the leading figure in his few successful tournament runs. Fatt’s versatility, experience, and her winning history with E. Ekman 🇸🇪 could be the key factors in the UK´s duo performance. Do we count the UK as Europe though?🤔Given the limited data on non-European, non-North American teams, predictions are challenging. However, one team that stands out is Bastos/Lima 🇧🇷. Bastos, who studies in the US, has managed to finish on the podium and in the top 6 twice this STS season, playing with American Fowler. Buckle up as we dive into the stories that unfolded at the Munich Masters, fueled by <a data-mce-href="https://www.yfood.eu/" href="https://www.yfood.eu/">yFood</a> and <a data-mce-href="https://www.spezi-krombacher.de/" href="https://www.spezi-krombacher.de/">Krombacher Spezi</a>!<h3>Master attendance</h3>In a nail-biting showdown, Munich Masters, sanctioned by <a data-mce-href="https://www.roundnet.eu/" href="https://www.roundnet.eu/">EURA</a>, edged out ETS Bern by a single team—264 to 263—across two intense days. Now you know why I put “so far” in the preview about ETS Bern😉.But why the big numbers? Look at the map of Europe: both cities sit centrally, making them easily accessible by land and air. Plus, Germany boasts the largest player base across Europe, a fact that EURA and Spikeball have often overlooked. Just think about tournaments in the past in places such as Ireland, the UK, Romania, Latvia, or even this year's ETS in <a data-mce-href="https://fwango.io/etshelsinki2024" href="https://fwango.io/etshelsinki2024">Helsinki, Finland</a>.<h3>Depth of Women’s Field</h3>The Munich Masters showcased the depth of European women's roundnet. A staggering 46 and 51 teams competed in the women's division, respectively, fueling a massive 100 and 104 mixed/co-ed teams. This difference reflects the additional women's and mixed divisions offered at Munich compared to Bern's two. In the open category, Bern took the win with 117 teams across three divisions, compared to Munich's 109 teams spread across five.This raises the question: are more divisions the way to go for future tournaments? The reasons vary, but that's a discussion for another time.The <a data-mce-href="https://munichroundnet.de/" href="https://munichroundnet.de/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Munich Roundnet Community</a> (MRC) organization team proved that timely finishes are possible. Both days, all players were off the court by 6 pm! Sure, there were adjustments like best-of-three finals to 15 points and an earlier 7:30 am start (even before the courts officially opened). But it worked!The secret sauce? The finger snap is the anchor, which puts Laura in a ready state for the next point. That is called classical conditioning (Pawlow). Operant conditioning is learning from your actions. With a staggering 119 open teams (including 41 in the Pro Division) and an impressive 46 women's teams, a total of 165 teams will battle it out across five divisions on Saturday. On Sunday, a staggering 103 mixed teams will play it out to see who is the best.We're well into the European roundnet season, with the fourth ETS about to take place. Being the only EURA-selected ETS tournament in central (Roundnet) Europe, Bern's accessibility naturally attracts many teams. In addition,<a href="https://www.roundnetclubbern.ch/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-mce-href="https://www.roundnetclubbern.ch/"> Roundnet Club Bern</a> has been successfully running events since 2018 and it is known for its professionalism and welcoming community.</figure>The season has been quite unpredictable with some surprising results and upsets. Every tournament so far was been won by a different team. However, we'd like to mention that the European powerhouse Eistenträger/Siemer only played in one of those, winning Leuven in a very convincing fashion.Lukas and Paul haven't lost in Europe to a European team since their semi-final loss to RCG Powerline (🇦🇹) at the European Championship in Ireland in 2022 (the only other loss was at STS Toulouse 2023 in the semi-final against a Canadian duo V. Mathieu/E. Pilon). A very impressive win streak, making them the top favorites once again.Even if it's the most stacked tournament so far, it's hard to see a different outcome for ETS Bern, but... The weather forecast is looking pretty bad, predicting a lot of rain, which could prove to be a huge factor. Prüfer after yet another ace</figcaption></figure>On the question, of why does WW not travel more, they answered:<blockquote>Although the people at the international tournaments are incredibly nice and always offer a nice atmosphere, the traveling distances and destinations are also far away and therefore more expensive than German tournaments, where you can also play at a high level against European top teams.</blockquote>Furthermore, WW explained that the German coaches decided at the start of the season that the performances at the German Masters tournaments would be the biggest factor in the selection process for German teams, therefore they focus on them. Their big goal for the season is to become part of the German national team for Worlds 2024 in London.<h3>Battle for Elite Points for the Championship</h3>Lastly, as we're getting closer and closer to the ETS Championship in Vienna more teams will also be thinking about the points they still need to earn to secure a spot in the elite division.
